Steamboat Wharf at Sargentville (MAR.6)
Sargentville steamboat wharf and the steamers the stopped there.
Digital images donated by Ed Chapin.
From the late 1800s until the 1930s steamboats provided transportation for people, freight and mail throughout the Penobscot Bay region. They had scheduled stops at the many wharfs along the way and were a convenient way to travel or send freight to the larger cities to the south. These photos are of the wharf at the end of Shore Road and some of the steamboats that stopped there.
